2 ways to protect yourself from Deed Fraud.

SIGN UP FOR PROPERTY ALERTS

Lee County has been experiencing and continues to enjoy remarkable growth in regard to property value, new construction and home sales.  The county’s Clerk of Court is receiving a seemingly endless flow of real estate documents and recordings.

Property fraud occurs when an unauthorized individual utilizes your identity to transfer your property into their name or fraudulently record documents related to your property.  A counterfeit, forged document is created and then recorded into the county’s official records.

Property fraud can result in costly and complicated problems and, as these criminal acts are often undiscovered until attempting to sell or refinance your property, the fraud can result in irreparable damage.

Once registered, property owners receive notification, within 24 hours, when a deed, mortgage or other land record with their registered name on it has been recorded into the county’s official records.

Property owners can register multiple properties, whether owned personally or commercially, by visiting https://or.leeclerk.org/LandMarkWeb/FraudAlert.

Another or addition protection that you can take to safeguard your property, is removing your information from the public database with a courtesy block from the Lee County Property Appraiser.

REQUEST A COURTESY BLOCK

Out of concern for individual privacy, current Property Appraiser policy allows taxpayers to request that their property information be removed/not displayed on our website. Requesting that your information be removed from our website does not stop or protect your information from being provided when it is requested. To request a courtesy block of your personal information, complete the Request for Courtesy Block form.

Please note: once the Courtesy Block has been processed, you will not be able to see your information on our website. In order for you to see your information on our website again, you have to request that we remove the Courtesy Block. To remove the courtesy block of your personal information, complete the Request for Removal of Courtesy Block form.
